Austrian artist Istvan Zachar has made a series of still lives that are inspired by icons of art history. He places objects from everyday life, like mobile phones or laptops in a historic, often anachronistic context. He captures moments in time. By taking personal items from his studio he reflects on and describes his very own (inner) space, repeating and duplicating forms and figures. Zachar´s artistic work routine is always the same: he starts painting and then sees what happens without having a definite or fixed goal. The painting almost emerges, partly by intuition and partly by chance, as if found objects from the studio were assembled on the canvas. But Istvan Zachar likes to experiment with material as well – he also paints on wooden inlay panels he finds at fleamarkets.
The Vienna based Artist describes his vision: „I have been obsessed with art history for a very long time and have always imagined how the old masters would have painted today“.
